Hello Region 7!
I hope this email finds you all well during these crazy difficult times. It's been tough and we appreciate all you are doing to get through this situation gracefully and patiently.
On behalf of the Region 7 Administrative Committee, I wanted to reach out to you all to pass along some information relevant to our Region 7 Community.
First of all, as you are likely already aware, National Congress is shifting from a live event to a virtual event. We appreciate your patience as the limited staff at USA Gymnastics works through the challenges of shifting this event from a live face to face event to a unique virtual event. The Staff is working tirelessly to create the content our community needs from this National Congress, and it seems as though things are progressing really nicely! Stay tuned! Although we all believe a live event (both Regionally and Nationally) would be the best scenario, in these uncertain times it is with your best interest in mind that we are making the switch to a single virtual event. We had considered holding the Region 7 Congress virtually, however with the option of a National Congress in the horizon it made sense to cancel the Region 7 Congress for 2020. Those of you who were already registered for the 2020 Region 7 Congress should have received a letter from USA Gymnastics regarding this information. And although we are sad to cancel this event in 2020, we are looking forward to bringing the 2021 Region 7 Congress to Baltimore, MD. We are already using this time to begin planning for next years event. I will be sending details on dates for this and all 2021 Region 7 events in the near future.
Next, in regard to the Region 7 training camps in 2020:
1. The Pre-season Prep camp in it's normal format is cancelled, but we will be offering a virtual option of this camp on July 18th. Please be patient with us as we finalize the structure of the camp, registration procedures and final content. Linda Johnson, RJOCC, is working diligently to create a unique and informative camp for our Region 7 Athletes. We think this will be a fabulous opportunity for our athletes to stay focused on their training regardless of what phase of opening their individual clubs are in.
2. The High Performance Camp, typically a qualification camp from the results of 9 Eastern's and JO Nationals, will obviously be cancelled this year due to the fact that we did not have these Championship meets this year. We look forward to having this camp at Woodward again in 2021!
3. The Xcel Training Camp has also been cancelled for 2020. We are still actively discussing the structure of additional educational opportunities for our Xcel athletes and coaches. Stay tuned for details on possible event(s) as they become available.
Obviously, we are saddened with the cancellation of so many events this season. We plan to continue to monitor the pandemic and if possible will consider future education/training/showcase opportunities in Region 7.
In conclusion, the Region 7 Committee has been meeting weekly to continue to update the RACC on the happenings within their States. If you have anything we can help you with during this time, please reach out to me and/or your State Chair and let them know your thoughts. I also meet via zoom with members of the USA Gymnastics staff every week and I would be glad to pass along any of your questions or concerns.
As we navigate through the next few weeks and months, we will continue to update our event schedules and we will share that with you once we have significant information to pass along. We are Region 7 Strong - Keep your heads up and let's be supportive of each other as we move through to the other side of this.
